This project is designed to improve the communication and connection between the staff of the zoo and visitors. The main goal is to spread knowledge of topics concerning the zoo as an organisation, zoo animals and the work of the staff. A deeper understandig of what is going on behind the scenes can raise awareness for zoos, their staff and the animals.
A display will be set up in the zoo’s souvenir shop. On it there will be a poster explaining the project, a mailbox with a tear-off pad and pen, compartments for postcards and a banner with the project title.
The zoo visitors take a piece of paper, write down their question for the zoo and put it in the mailbox. The questions will be collected and each question will then be illustrated by me and answered by the zoo staff. This will create a postcard for each question, with the zoo visitor’s illustrated question on the front and the zoo staff’s answer on the back. The postcard will be duplicated and placed in the display in the souvenir shop. It can then be purchased there.
We will post on Instagram as soon as a new card, meaning a new question, has been illustrated.
Since zoo visitors may have questions while they are strolling around the zoo, I designed a digital application. Visitors can easily ask their questions on the go by scanning a QR Code on their smartphones. The QR Code is displayed on poster along the way through the zoo. On the digital devices the zoo visitor is taken to a form in which they can enter their question to the zoo.
